Ketel Marte has become one of the talking points in MLB at the moment following his absence from the Arizona Diamondbacks. On Thursday, a former World Series winner slammed him for this and expressed that it was not a good look.

This past Monday, the D-backs traveled to Boston to take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The second baseman had some issues with his knee in the previous series against the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta.

He was removed from the game on Friday and sat out on Saturday. On Sunday, he was back in the lineup. After this series, the team went to Boston.

The D-backs expected him to be in the lineup for the series opener on Monday. However, he was a no-show. He did not arrive at Fenway Park. As he did not communicate his reason for absence, he was placed on the restricted list.

On Tuesday, reports emerged that he had left knee soreness and would undergo an MRI scan regarding this. On Thursday, team CEO Derrick Hill claimed that he was unsure about the whole situation.

Later that day, Marte and his agent met with team General Manager Mike Hazen and team manager Torey Lovullo. They were reported to have had a productive meeting. The player also found himself removed from the restricted list and placed on the 10-day injured list.

This whole development has sparked some backlash against Marte. On Thursday, a former World Series winner, Josh Reddick, joined the Foul Territory podcast. During this, he was asked for his opinion regarding this situation.

The ex-Houston Astros star did not hold back. He stated that Marte’s actions showed that he did not care about his team and his teammates.

This is just bad look, just bad look overall. I mean, you ghost your team, you don’t show up, and then you don’t talk to anybody for, what, a couple of days. It just makes you look bad. … It shows you don’t care about your team, you don’t care about your teammates.

Josh Reddick said regarding Ketel Marte

This week was not the first time Marte was placed on the restricted list. Last year, he missed 3 games after his house in Scottsdale was robbed during the All-Star Game. At that moment, he was representing the National League in the Midsummer Classic. He later returned to the team and apologized for his absence.

Lovullo does have a good relationship with Marte. He has often showered support on the 3-time All-Star and has backed him.

During the pre-game on Friday, the 61-year-old urged the fans to show support for him and not turn on him. He did, however, claim that he felt betrayed and was frustrated by the whole saga.

As the D-backs took on the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, a photo of Marte at a casino went viral. This did not sit well with some social media users.

The NL West side ended up winning 9-0. Following this win, Lovullo was asked about his thoughts regarding this photo. The skipper claimed that he was free to do whatever he wanted once he was set loose by the medical team.

When you’re turned loose from the medical team over there [Salt River Fields] you’re allowed to go home and have an evening with your family. So he’s free to do whatever he wants.

Torey Lovullo told the reporters regarding Ketel Marte

Earlier in the day, Lovullo did state that the D-backs management has asked Marte for an apology when he returns. At the moment, the team finds itself in a tight race for the final Wild Card Spot in the National League.

With their victory, they improved to a 68-61 record and were 1 game behind the San Diego Padres for the final Wild Card spot. As for Marte, he has 21 home runs and 67 RBIs while hitting .249 in 118 games.
