Alfa Romeo Not Keen About Antonio Giovinazzi’s “Manners” as he is Set to Leave F1
Antonio Giovinazzi
As the 2021 F1 season comes to an end, the drivers move on to the last 3 races of the season. The 2022 grid however, will be looking slightly different, as drivers make switches, and veterans are replaced by rookies. As Valtteri Bottas and George Russell change teams, Alfa Romeo will see a completely new line up for next year.
Kimi Raikonnen, who will retire at the end of season, will be replaced by Bottas. Unfortunately this year is also the end of Antonio Giovinazzi’s 3 year stint in Formula 1, as he will be replaced by the first Chinese driver on the grid, Guanyu Zhou. Soon after announcing his departure, Giovinazzi posted a tweet in which he stated that “cash is king” in the sport of F1.
These comments were not well received by Alfa Romeo, who went as far as to tell the Italian that there was no place on the team for him anymore. His boss Frederic Vasseur also expressed his displeasure in the matter.
Alfa Romeo Boss Frederic Vasseur Warns Antonio Giovinazzi
After seeing the comments Vasseur said according to gpblog, “Honestly, I’m not a big fan of this kind of attitude: also because the team gave him the chance to do three seasons in F1, and Alfa Romeo gave him the chance to do three seasons in F1. Tons of drivers would have dreamed to do it.
Vasseur feels it is important for Giovinazzi to close the chapter in F1 well, especially with only 3 races to go. He left Giovinazzi with a final warning before he left the team. “Now he (Giovinazzi) will have other challenges,” Vasseur said. “He will have to do well in that other challenge, and perhaps he will come back in F1 in the future. But it’s a small world and we have to stay professional.”
