Mattia Binotto the Ferrari team Principal has recently given his verdict on the participation of Audi and Porsche in the Formula One arena from 2026 onwards.

A key meeting of the Volkswagon group took place last Thursday over the weekend in Melbourne where 2026 Formula One engines were discussed in detail and there was also talk about possible partnerships that could be made with brands like Audi and Porsche possibly arriving on the starting grid from 2026 onwards.

The new era of Formula One has just kicked in with the start of the 2022 F1 season but the new engines that will come in from 2026 have become a hot topic as time is running out before the final nail is put into the 2026 regulations coffin.

This holds huge significance for brands like Audi and Porsche who are desperately trying to get on the grid by 2026 by joining forces with teams like Red Bull and McLaren, Sauber, or Aston Martin.

Mercedes and Ferrari have already given their green light to say adieu to the sophisticated MGU-H component and it is believed that its removal is going to help in bringing down costs significantly.

Mattia Binotto, however, on the 2026 engines has revealed that there are still a few issues that need to be solved and while talking about it has said, “We are happy to be able to compete with brands like Porsche and Audi, but the aspect of the financial rules must be defined and then the theme of what it means to be a new participant, what benefits it should enjoy, and the one on the transfer of intellectual property which should not be possible. Time is running out, we have to close in June.”

Transfer of Intellectual Property is a hot topic and before the 2022 season, Red Bull bought intellectual property rights from their previous engine suppliers Honda in a bid to make their engines at their factory in Milton Keynes.

This is something that Porche can take advantage of for 2026 and recently the Red Bull group also acquired over 50 of Mercedes’s previous employees and this could create a pool of technicians ready to put together the strengths and research supported by three giants of different automobiles in a single-engine.

The race for an entry into Formula One from 2026 onwards is hotting up nicely and it is going to be interesting to see if Audi and Porche would be able to secure their arrival in Formula One before the final regulations are put in place.
