Aston Martin might have found the replacement for Otmar Szafnauer already

The 2021 formula 1 season was much more than just a regular season of F1 in hybrid car era where team Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton dominated the whole track, it was not he case though as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen raced wheel to wheel with Lewis Hamilton finishing on top after a dramatic championship finisher in Abu Dhabi.
The 2021 season also witnessed constructers like Ferrari and McLaren having an intense battle for constructers championship P3. Team Aston Martin on the other hand had a season way below their class as they were only able to finish 7th overall in constructers championship even though they had 4times world champion Sebastian Vettel behind the wheels.
The Aston Martin duo of veteran Sebastian Vettel and Lance stroll was only able to accumulate 43 and 34 points respectively. Aston Martin F1 team principal Otmar Szafnauer has left his role in the after nearly 12 years of service with the British team. Aston Martin were able to finish in P5 and P4 in the constructor’s championship on successive occasions between 2015 and 2017 under Otmar Szafnauer who also played instrument role in securing long-term deal for Mercedes power units.
Who is going to be Aston martin’s potential replacement for Otmar Szafnauer and Aston Martin’s future?
Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has big shoes to fill for Otmar Szafnauer, and Aston Martin is reported to be considering approaching Martin Whitmarsh for an F1 leadership role in the team. Martin Whitmarsh was Ron Dennis’ successor at McLaren in 2008 staying there until 2014. Martin Whitmarsh re-joined F1 in September 2021 as Group Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Performance Technologies.
Alfa Romeo’s Chief Designer Luca Furbatto joined Aston Martin last year being one of their key recruitments they also recruited Bull Racing’s Head of Aerodynamics Dan Fallows whose appointment is in dead lock following legal battle between him and Red Bull racing over contractual issues.
Veteran Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll will remain with Aston Martin for 2022 season. Sebastian Vettel is in pressure to show he still got what it takes to be in F1 after a disappointing Aston Martin debut season last year and his teammate Lance Stroll is aiming to increase his point tally.
