The 2021 season saw dominance of Red Bull and Mercedes and resurgence of Ferrari to the top 3 mix with their car and drivers performing really well. But former Red Bull and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel was on the losing side as he failed keep performing according to the elite status he set already and his Aston Martin car’s performance also didn’t help.

Sebastian Vettel joined team Aston Martin in 2021 following his departure from Ferrari after he failed to recreate his championship winning run, he had with Red Bull before joining them.  Sebastian Vettel finished his 2021 season with 43 points to his name finishing 12th overall in drivers’ championship. Now former chief executive of the Formula One Group has proposed a potential move for Sebastian Vettel.

When the Sport1.de asked about whether Sebastian Vettal retire as he does not posses the same speed as he uses to in the past Bernie Ecclestone said that Sebastian Vettel shouldn’t be told to retire, he should do it when he feels like it’s time. Bernie Ecclestone added that it isn’t easy to say Sebastian Vettel is quick as he isn’t in a competitive car as he used to be in the past. He added that  Sebastian Vettel should go back to Red Bull where he won his 4 F1 world titles.

When he feels like it, he shouldn’t be told he’s got to retire,” says Bernie Ecclestone.

We don’t know how quick he is anymore because he’s not in a competitive car – so it’s not easy to say he’s not as quick as he used to be,” Bernie Ecclestone explained.

“He needs to be back in Red Bull, actually,” Bernie Ecclestone added.

What’s ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin in 2022

Sebastian Vettel will drive with Aston Martin along with Lance Stroll as he did in his debut season in 2021 hoping to get his mojo back. He will be expecting that new F1 regulation which will come to effect in 2022 will benefit performance of his Aston Martin and will help him impact the 2022 title race.

Aston Martin is seeming already in backfoot as their long-standing boss Otmar Szafnauer left them this year and they’re in desperate need to find a proper replacement. Aston Martin is reported to be considering approaching Martin Whitmarsh for an F1 leadership role in the team and is also planning multiple high-profile staff signing’s hoping to turn their fortune around.
