Christian Horner the RedBull team principal has recently shed light on how surprised he was after seeing the differences in the cars during the first pre-season testing in Barcelona.

It has been stated in GPFANS that Christian Horner was intrigued after seeing the new cars during pre-season testing and believes that everyone is going to witness huge evolution in car designs as the 2022 season would progress.

While talking about the new cars Horner said, “It’s always interesting to see the cars for the first time, particularly with such a big regulation change.”

And in what are pretty prescriptive regulations, to have such variance, it’s fascinating to see how the teams are interpreting these rules.”

Of course, there will be convergence over a period of time, but you’ve certainly got some very varied themes between the teams.”

It is going to be fascinating to see how that plays out because I’m sure as the cars progress through the season, they will probably look very different by the time we get to Abu Dhabi.”

Christian Horner believes allocation of time will be important in car development

The RedBull team Principal has put emphasis on time when it comes to developing the car further during the 2022 Formula1 season. This view has come in light of the fact that the top teams will be given the least amount of time as compared to other teams for wind tunnel and CDF testing.

To put things into perspective, teams like Mercedes will be given 45 percent less time for aerodynamic testing as compared to Haas with 5 percent increments separating the rest of the grid in between.

While this is one issue for teams like RedBull, Christian Horner has also said that compared to the testing time, the bigger issue for the teams during the 2022 season is going to be the cost cap, as in his opinion it will have a deep impact on what teams are able to do.

It’s certainly something internally that I haven’t heard any noise about at all but it’s not the amount of time that you have, it’s how you use that time, how you apply your resource.”

And, of course, what we have had the last couple of years which is a far bigger constraint, is the cost cap that largely dictates what you can do or what you can afford to do.”

I think it is marginal. I don’t think it’s going to create a sway between being a significant advantage to teams outside of the top three.”

Christian has put out an interesting opinion and now it is going to be intriguing to see how well RedBull and the other teams are able to cope with challenges that the 2022 Formula1 season is going to throw the way of the respective teams.
