Ferrari deal Mercedes and RedBull blow by poaching key staff ahead of 2022 season
Toto, Mattia, and Christian
Ferrari Formula1 team is prepping up very nicely for the 2022 season of Formula1 and it seems they could very well become a dark horse in the fight for the title next season. Ferrari has recently acquired the services of former key staff at Mercedes and RedBull.
It has been stated in the Express that the Maranello-based Ferrari team is looking to build on the progress of the 2021 Formula1 season and as per reports they have managed to get key engineers from the Mercedes and Redbull camp in a bid to ensure that their team is fighting for the title next season.
The Italian team had one of their worst seasons in Formula1 in 2020 where they finished a disappointing sixth in the constructor’s championship. The 2021 season was all about progress for the team and they certainly did manage to do that in 2021 by finishing a respectable third in the constructor’s championship.
They were locked in a season-long battle for third with McLaren but after introducing the engine upgrade in the second half of 2021, they were comfortably able to secure third place with a healthy margin of 48.5 over McLaren.
The Italian outfit is looking to further improve their car by taking advantage of the new regulations that are coming into effect in the 2022 season of Formula1.
Ferrari has introduced new personnel in a bid to challange at the front of the grid
The new engineers that Ferrari has brought in from Mercedes and RedBull are going to work alongside the current staff at Maranello and their team principal Mattia Binotto is looking for stability despite the introduction of the new engineers.
It is believed that Ferrari has now adopted the same approach that underpinned the design of the SF70H and its successor according to reports. Both the cars were able to challenge Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes for the most part of the season even though both ultimately had to kneel to Mercedes and Hamilton.
It is believed that Ferrari has brought in personnel from the top two teams in a bid to understand how things are done at the top teams and to get key insights into the work that is done at other teams.
The ground-effect dynamics are coming back into play in 2022 after a four-decade hiatus away from the sport. This is one of the major changes for 2022 and the new generation of engineers are not very sure as to how it would work on a Formula1 car.
In a bid to tackle this problem, Ferrari has brought in their former chief designer Rory Byrne, who started contributing to the sport in the early 1980s.
On the design side of things, the engineers have not been given a lot of freedom for 2022 but the various teams would be doing their best in order to find certain loopholes in the regulations that the teams might be able to take advantage of.
The new Formula1 season is just around the corner and Ferrari would be hoping that the introduction of new personnel will bring fresh ideas which will help them in getting the upper hand over the rest of the competition in the 2022 season of Formula1.
