Mercedes are preparing for another successful year and to lay claim to their 9th Consecutive Constructors title in the 2022 Formula One championship. The Silver Arrows have performed well in the pre-season testing and have adapted to the new regulations and their challenges.
Amongst those who will be gearing up will be rookie driver George Russell. Russell will be partnering with Lewis Hamilton after the Brit replaced Alfa Romeo bound Valtteri Bottas. Russell, a Mercedes Junior driver since 2017 joins the Brackley based team after spending 3 years at Williams.
George has already shown promising signs by setting the second-fastest lap time at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya during the first Pre-season testing in Barcelona. He covered more than 200 laps covered across the 3 days and this seems like he will be in contention for the title.

George Russell shares his strategy ahead of 2022 F1 season
George Russell will be promoted to the front of the grid after battling at the back for three seasons with Williams. When asked whether with the promotion to Mercedes he is now ambitious to challenge for the title, Russell denied and said his focus has always been the same.
Russell states “It’s not even something I’m thinking about, to be honest. I think it’s quite incredible how racing drivers’ minds work, that when you put the helmet on, it doesn’t matter if you’re fighting for the win, or for me for the last few years – fighting at the back of the grid. You always go in with the exact same mindset.”
He added “I had the best example of that in Bahrain when I raced for Mercedes. For me, that was just another race. When we [were] out in front or starting from the front row, the approach is the same, the mindset’s the same, the work you put into the event post-event is exactly the same. So working on the process, and worry about everything afterwards.”
Russell stood in for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix after Hamiton tested positive for CoVid-19. He could have achieved a podium if not a race win in his first race with Mercedes but couldn’t due to a botched pitstop.
