Ferrari is on course to cement their lead on the championship as Charles Leclerc claims his second win of the season with the Australian GP. And the Scuderia, comfortably sit on top of the Constructor’s championship with a 49 point lead on Mercedes in second place. Leclerc leads the drivers’ championship by 34 points which is more than anyone did during any point in the 2021 season.
Ferrari who had a slumped in form in the recent years, decided to focus on the new-regulations car early on and their efforts are paying off. Another team that have bounced back after a slump are Haas. With Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher behind the wheel, Haas sits in 7th place in the Constructors Championship.
And the sudden rise in form by the American outfit has raised suspicion in the minds of Alpine Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer. He requests FIA to take a close look into the relationship between the two teams as this gives the American team an unfair advantage.

Are Ferrari to blame for Haas’s sudden rise to success

Haas has had close relations with Ferrari since entering Formula One in 2016, buying permitted parts from the Italian team and using their wind tunnel. The Ferrari powertrain is also used by Haas. The team also employes racer Mick Schumacher who is a Ferrari Junior driver. Haas moved into a design office at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters ahead of the season. Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer has questioned the legitimacy of the relationship as he believes its fair for FIA to inspect it.
Szafnauer said, “It’s a small team that’s done well over the winter, from last to sometimes third-fastest team and it’s a bit surprising. I thought that the pecking order would stay almost the same because generally, in a big regulation change, over the years that I’ve been in Formula 1, the bigger the regulation change, the more it favours those with know-how and the infrastructure and the tools to actually exploit the new rules.”
He added, “So, it’s a bit surprising that the Haas are where they are for a small team but I trust the FIA will investigate and come to the right conclusion between how similar the two cars are.”
Ferrari bounced back after a troublesome 2021 season. The team devoted all their resources to perfecting their new-regulations car early on and they reap the success. since its launch the Ferrari F1-75 showed throughout the Pre-season test that it was a worthy contender for the title.
