Pirelli’s Tyre Rules Reveal Plans For Wet Pre Season Testing in Barcelona

Pirelli, who is the primary tyre provider for the Formula 1 race cars has revealed that there will be indeed a wet weather test for the 3 days of pre-season testing planned in Barcelona. The new regulations brought out by the FIA for the 2022 season have changed several things including the tyre.

The older tyres have now been replaced by bigger tyres. In the tyre rules released by Pirelli, it was clearly mentioned that the drivers will be compulsorily asked to utilise the wet and Pirelli 18 inch tyres.

The plan highlights that the track would be made wet or dampened artificially on Friday during the course of the lunch break.

There is also a chance for rain falling which may wet the track as it is. Weather forecasts have confirmed that there is a 60 to 70 per cent chance of rainfall in the area surrounding the race track in Barcelona.

Throughout the course of the pre-season testing, each team would be given a total of three sets of the blue marked Wet tyres and three sets of the green marked intermediate tyres to utilise.

Pirelli has revealed their entire plan pertaining to the tyre allocation for the upcoming three-day pre-season testing. Each team would be allocated a total of 30 sets of the new 18 inch Pirelli tyres. The teams would be able to choose from a total of 35 sets of slick tyres.

The range of tyres run from C-1, the white marked hardest tyres to C-5, the softest red marked tyres. The tyre choices made by the teams would be kept confidential. Pirelli has also revealed the technical details of the tyres such as the optimal pressure required while starting.

The maximum temperature and heating time has also been revealed. The stage for the pre-season testing in Barcelona for the 2022 F1 season is set. An important point to note for the testing is that it won’t be broadcasted to the audiences.

The second pre-season testing which is slated to be held in Bahrain would be the first time wherein we would be able to watch the new cars complete a lap around the track.
