Ross Brawn selected Pat Symonds as the head of the Formula1 technical department to work on future regulations of the sport and like Ross, his tenure is also coming to an end after the Formula1 2022 season. Simmons’s last big involvement with the sport was when FIA issued the new power unit regulations coming in from the start of the 2026 season of Formula1.

With Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds leaving at the end of 2022, the members of the F1 technical team who previously worked under Pat Symonds are going to be transferred to the FIA, this move has been encouraged by the EU to separate the rule-making process from the promotional organization.

The people that worked on Pat’s team were a group of 15 engineers who worked on Aerodynamics and fuel-related research work. Most of the team after 2022 will work under Nikolas Tombazis who is the head of single-seater matters at FIA.

The only person that would not be making the move to FIA, is the head of vehicle performance Craig Wilson, he played a crucial role in designing circuits as well as being involved in the car technical package.
