“Valtteri Bottas is a big flop,” Helmut Marko outlines big difference between Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri and Sergio

Helmut Marko the Red Bull team adviser has recently said a few things about the former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s current driver Sergio Perez.

It has been stated in the Independent that in the opinion of Helmut Marko, there lies a certain key difference that separates Sergio Perez and Alfa Romeo bound Valtteri Bottas. In his opinion, Sergio Perez is better than Valtteri Bottas and believes it is down to the fact that Valtteri is not very adept when it comes to overtaking fellow competitors during Grand Prix weekends.

However, Helmut Marko has admitted to the fact that on his day Valtteri is as fas as anybody else on the grid. Helmut has been associated with the sport for a long time and knows about all the ins and outs of the sport. Helmut believes Valtteri is a super-fast driver when it comes to pace but lacks the creative edge that is required in order to go past drivers while racing on the track.

The Red Bull team adviser while talking up Sergio against Valtteri has pointed to the fight that Sergio had with Lewis Hamilton at the last race of the 2021 Formula1 season.

During the last race of the 2021 season, Sergio Perez was able to play a key role in Max Verstappen’s title triumph. Sergio held up the pacey Lewis Hamilton for a considerable time and it allowed Max to cover around 7.5 seconds while he was fighting with the Ferrari’s. In Helmut’s view, Valtteri always had the pace at Mercedes but was not able to develop the creativity that is required when someone is fighting at the north end of the grid.

Valtteri Bottas has left the Mercedes team after the completion of the 2021 Formula1 season and is now going to drive for Alfa Romeo as the lead car during the 2022 Formula1 season. At Mercedes, Valtteri was second best to Lewis on most occasions but with him joining a new team for the upcoming season maybe we will see a completely different driver during the 2022 season.
