“We need to focus on ourselves,” Charles Leclerc declares Ferrari shouldn’t lose track ahead of Australian GP

Ferrari continues their great start to the season by dominating the charts on Day 1 of the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have proved that the Scuderia possess the best machinery in the grid and the changes in circuits won’t get the better of the Italians.

Sainz set the pace and the fastest lap of 1:19.806 in FP1 ahead of teammate Leclerc and the Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. But the Monagesque came back stronger for Round 2 by grabbing the top spot and setting the fastest lap of the day.

Leclerc believes he found his rhythm in FP2 after a tricky FP1 session. But the Monagesque has warned his team to buckle up as he believes none of the other “put a lap together.”

Charles Leclerc set a blistering lap time of 1:18.978 in FP2 and was ahead of his rival Max Verstappen who finished a close second. Teammate Carlos Sainz managed a P3. But despite a seemingly strong day lap time-wise, Leclerc was left cautious on his chances heading into qualifying in Melbourne.

Leclerc said, “Probably a bit of a harder Friday on my side. FP1 was a bit tricky and in FP2 I improved the driving quite a bit but there is still quite a bit of work to do. I don’t think anybody really put a lap together today. We need to keep focusing on ourselves and tomorrow’s qualifying. Hopefully, we will do another step forward. Let’s push.”

Ferrari leads the Constructors championship after the first two races. Both the drivers have finished on the podium of the first two races, with Leclerc claiming victory in the season opener in Bahrain. The Monagesque also claimed the fastest laps in the two races and leads the driver’s standings with 45 points, 12 clear of teammate Sainz and 20 clear of Verstappen.
