Watch: Madness in the F2 feature race in Bahrain proves costly to many
Pitlane madness in F2
This weekend has marked the beginning of the new season of some of the premier racing competitions, including F1, F2, and F3. All these series are taking place in Bahrain on the Bahrain International Circuit, with the showdown scheduled for the F1 GP after the F2 feature race.
F2 feature race started at 10:50 AM GMT on Sunday, after a 20 lap sprint race took place on Saturday. The feature race was won by Pourchaire, putting him ahead of Lawson despite scoring 0 points in the sprint race.
However, the race was as chaotic as it could be in the pitlane. The pitlane affected the outcome of the race severely because of two drivers losing their tires while pitting. Watch the video here:
How did this affect the F2’s 2022 first feature race?
The pit stop ended the race for both the drivers- Prema’s Hauger and Trident’s Calan Williams. The drivers losing both of their front left tires brought out the safety care and prompted the closure of the safety lane.
Doohan, who was leading the race at one point, was also affected by the pitstop. However, his incident didn’t occur in the pitlane but while exiting, when his front wing made contact with the Pourchaire, forcing him for an extra pitstop. Nevertheless, after his third pit stop, he managed to finish 10th and grab a single point.
The first feature race was then won by the Théo Pourchaire for the ART Grand Prix team, awarding him 25 points and putting him on the top of the points table, just a point ahead of Liam Lawson of Carlin racing.
