“Charles Leclerc was able to demonstrate that he is a top-level driver” : Former Ferrari President

Charles Leclerc
The 74 year old Italian, Luca di Montezemolo was the president of the Ferrari team from 1991-2014. The infamous golden era of the team was under his management where the team won six consecutive constructor’s championship and five driver’s championship. He is the one who was the face behind building the dream team consisting of F1 managing director Ross Brawn, former F1 boss Jean Todt, Rory Byrne who still provides consultation to the team and even the current Ferrari boss, Mattia Binotto’s tenure started under him. Di Montezemolo was the successor chosen to be the head of the team by none other than Enzo Ferrari himself.
Ferrari is the fabled team of the sport and both the team and the sport are inseparable. After tasting success for so many years with the driver Michael Schumacher, the team lost its position at top of the grid under new management. In the recent years of struggle, the team has not been able to bounce back and develop a car worthy of fighting for the championship. In the year 2020, the team saw an unexpected resignation by their CEO Louis Camilleri and it was speculated for di Montezemolo to return to the team in order to return it to the position it belongs. The ex-boss commented that the Binotto led crew is steering a lost ship in darkness.
Walk into the 2022 Formula-1 season and things have changed massively for the notorious red team. The team currently sits at top of the constructor’s standings with a gap of 39 points and have successfully attained 5 podium finishes out of the 6 possible. In light of this, the former boss commented, “Seeing such a competitive Ferrari is a beautiful thing. Congratulations to Mattia Binotto and to all the guys on the team who worked very well, united and determined.”
Luca di Montezemolo heaps praise on Charles Leclerc

This season of Formula-1 is unlike any other due to fresh rules and regulations with a battle for development running along. The ex-boss had nothing but praise for the Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc as he said, “Charles Leclerc was able to demonstrate that he is a top-level driver. The season is long, and the opponents will not sleep, but Ferrari could not have asked for a better start to the 2022 F1 season. Let’s continue like this“.
The Ferrari team finished 3rd in the constructor’s world championship in the 2021 season. The team spent more resources on the development of the car for this year and that decision has indeed paid off. The current Ferrari boss, Mattia Binotto is elated with the performance of the car, but refuses to get carried away. The Swiss born 52 year old said “We are not managing the championship, It’s only three races. We stay focused on every single race and that is the way we will approach.” He further added “To do well in difficult conditions, like in Australia, is always a great satisfaction. The credit goes to the group, we all worked by staying united and trying to raise the bar, and the fruit of the work shows.”
