Christian Horner seemed to be a happy man on Sunday, as you could see tears of joy pouring through his eyes. He had waited for about eight years to see this moment, as the last decade was largely dominated by Mercedes.

Max Verstappen claimed the 2021 F1 title in the most epic fashions, as a virtual safety car and a little bit of helping from FIA came to his rescue. Lewis Hamilton was all but certain to claim his eighth world championship title, until Nicholas Latifi met with an accident with Mich Schumacher that led to the deployment of a safety car.

Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal has thanked Nicholas Latifi for his championship-deciding role. Nothing less than a miracle could have helped Red Bull and Max Verstappen win the drivers championship on Sunday.

First and foremost, Christian Horner thanked Nicholas Latifi for bringing out the safety car. Next up, he praised the stewards for their courageous decision towards the end of the race, something which has already created a lot of controversies.

Many thanks to Nicholas Latifi for the safety car. The stewards were tough on us at the beginning of the race, but they did a great job of getting us to start the race again. It was a crazy world championship, and Max didn’t just win the title here, he showed exceptional performance all year round,” said Horner, as quoted by Speedweek.com.

Christian Horner also praised Lewis Hamilton for being an incredible competitor. Horner said that Lewis’ standing and legendary status in the sport make the win even more special.

Compliments to Lewis, he was a phenomenal opponent and a great world champion. And that makes the victory all the more valuable,” said Horner.
