“It’s the first time I’ve consistently found it difficult,” Daniel Ricciardo on his struggles at McLaren

Daniel Ricciardo was one of the six transfers that occurred prior to the current season. The Australian ended his two-year association with Renault to move to McLaren. A lot was expected from the seven-time race winner who aspired to become a part of the promising McLaren campaign.

Daniel Ricciardo has struggled during the first half of the season, and has failed to even score half the points as his teammate, Lando Norris. The former Red Bull driver admits that the first part of the season has been one of the toughest moments in his career, where he struggled for form on a consistent basis.

Definitely, definitely harder,” Ricciardo told speedcafe.com when asked if the current season was the toughest of his career so far.

I think it’s the first time I’ve consistently found it difficult. For sure over the years you have bad weekends, and even you might have two bad ones on a trot, but then you kind of get it right… I feel like it’s been definitely more bad [this year]. That’s obviously been not always easy to take, but it is what it is,” he added.

Daniel Ricciardo stated that he will have to figure out a few things, that will help him better his performances. Formula One is one of the most difficult sports to get into, with only 20 drivers getting a seat. As such, the competition is always going to be fierce. Ricciardo’s teammate, Lando Norris has been one of the star performers so far, securing 113 points. He is placed third in the championship standings with 12 races remaining in the season.

I think sometimes as well, you’ve got to realise and remember that I’m in the elite level of the sport. It shouldn’t be easy,” he added. “So yeah, I’m struggling more than I have before but it’s probably for a reason as well. I am against the best guys, so I’ve just got to lift my game and figure it out,” Ricciardo continued.
