Barcelona Pre-Season Testing: Daniel Ricciardo Tops the charts on Day 2 of three-day event

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya which is witnessing the first pre-testing session ahead of the first Grand Prix of this season at Bahrain has officially concluded Day Two of pre-testing with Mclaren’s Daniel Ricciardo setting the fastest time in the morning session today.

After Day One which of pre-testing which saw Mclaren driver Lando Norris topping the leaderboard with an impressive timing of 1m19.568s, Day Two saw Lando’s teammate Australian Daniel Ricciardo making it clear to everyone today that he wants to go back to winning ways as soon as possible by making a statement by clocking in the fastest lap today. The 32-year-old racing driver clocked in a time of 1:20.355 and completed an impressive 64 laps on C3 tires. This comes after the Ferrari duo setting some awe-worthy times too. His British teammate Lando Norris however expressed his concerns regarding the “sluggish” feel of the cars in 2022 following newly implemented regulations which have made the cars around a whopping 47 kgs heavier than it was in 2021.

However, it is to note that the first red flag came out following Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez stopping on the tracks. The red flag came right around 35 minutes before the commencement of the lunch break today. Perez seemed to stop his car amid his 39th lap today. Red Bull later confirmed that the car had to be stopped due to a gearbox issue.

Mercedes on the other hand seemed to have certain issues with porpoising today which essentially means that the car seemed to be bouncing up and down around the straights following a certain speed.

Pre-season testing comes to an end after Friday when Day Three of testing is concluded in Bahrain. The teams will again assemble in Bahrain next month for the first Grand Prix of the season.
