Gunther Steiner reveals no change in Haas’ relationship with Ferrari despite new business relations

Gunther Steiner, Ferrari Team Principal
The Hass team lead by Gunter Steiner has not exactly been the team of the year. The racing team includes Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher as their drivers for the year 2022.
The team fails to deliver a strong and fast car due to the budget constrains and employment. With the changes in the technical guidelines and Ferrari’s support, the drivers, Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher feel confident in being able to compete other drivers on the grid.
Following the implementation of F1’s budget cap last year, Ferrari chose to redeploy a number of staff members to work with its customer Haas squad in order to redirect resources. The new Hass VF-22 car was designed by a team led by ex-Ferrari senior designer Simone Resta by introducing a ‘Hass Hub’ in Maranello.
With the team finishing last in the constructor’s championship, failing to score any points after opting against car development so it could focus on the new regulations for 2022, the Hass team is optimistic and is looking forward to bounce back with some points on the table.

A look at the relationship between Hass and Ferrari
“The relationship, the collaboration hasn’t changed for the better or worse, it’s very much the same. It’s just now we are sitting now inside Maranello, with a large group of people. We always had people in the wind tunnel office, because we have got two offices now in Maranello, one in the wind tunnel and one where the designers and the aerodynamicists are in the week,” said Steiner.
Despite the opening of the Maranello office, team principal Steiner stated that the relationship between Haas and Ferrari had not changed significantly, explaining that it was a simple decision to capitalize on the opportunity.

“I wouldn’t say the relationship has changed dramatically; we’ve always had a good relationship,” Steiner said.
“The FIA’s rules also govern the relationship. You can’t do anything more just because we’re in Maranello. It was convenient because there were offices available due to the impending budget cap, and Ferrari had already planned the buildings. We took advantage of the available office space, and we now have about 30 to 35 people from Ferrari who have moved over to us as a result of the F1 budget cap.” Said Steiner.
Since 2016, Hass has based their model by taking as many components from Ferrari as possible, permitting under the regulations which allows them to reduce their own cost and streamline operations. The team took a similar approach with the VF-22, which will be fully unveiled later this month at the start of pre-season testing in Barcelona.
