‘He can help us to broaden our horizons!’ Sebastian Vettel has no ‘doubt’ that Aston Martin will benefit from Mark Krack’s appointment
Sebastian Vettel, Mark Krack
In January 2022, Aston Martin, owned by Lawrence Stroll’s team principal Otmar Szafnauer decided to leave the team with immediate effect after having spent 12 years with them since 2009 when the team was formerly called Force India. Aston Martin had announced their new team principal, Mike Krack during the same month. Otmar’s new replacement, Mike Krack has previously worked with BMW and Porsche motorsport teams.
The new team Principal at Aston Martin, Mark brings in a lot of experience not only from Formula 1 but also experience in abundance from the World Endurance Championship and Formula E and was welcomed by the team in January, 2022.
Sebastian Vettel, driver in formula One for the Aston Martin team seemed to be very impressed by the knowledge and experience which Mark had shared and said in an interview that, “I believe the team will absolutely benefit from his attitude, from his knowledge. Not just as an engineer, but I think overall he has had a lot of different experiences. And I think that can only help us to broaden our horizons at this point in time.”

Sebastian Vettel’s reaction to Mark Krack’s move to Aston Martin
This season will be interesting at the Aston Martin garage with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Krack as they go way back in time and share a history. The two, formerly used to be colleagues and have worked alongside each other at BMW. After BMW-Sauber, Krack left the team in 2008 after they decided to focus on 2009 rather than carrying on with title fight against Robert Kubica alongside Vettel’s move to Toro Rosso.
“It’s been a while since we worked together. I think he went his own way and went through a lot of stations and learned a lot. I think a lot happened to me too. That’s how it is, that’s what happens sometimes. Then you meet again. I hope we can both benefit from each other in that regard,” said Vettel about working with Mark after a long time during an interview.
After the launch of the AMR22 and Mark Krack’s arrival at the Aston Martin team, the four-time world champion is convinced that the team means business and are not here just to play.
Before the new season, the Silverstone-based team replaced outbound long-time team principal Otmar Szafnauer. Vettel was quick to acknowledge the Romanian-American’s contribution but he hopes his previous experience with Krack will be more beneficial. “Otmar was part of the team for a very long time and of course a very familiar face, That’s why, in a way, it’s a loss for now,” said Vettel about Otmar.
“But looking ahead, I think we hope we will move closer together as a team and I think Mike is a top man. I had the opportunity to work with him many years ago and have good memories and experiences.“
“I think he has matured extremely over the last few years and is definitely a great asset for us,” says Vettel ahead of the 2022 season.
