“Huge percentage of the championship still to run,” Christian Horner optimistic despite losing a hatful of points this season
Christian Horner
Despite Max Verstappen having an awful start due to the reliability issues, Red Bull’s boss Christian Horner appears to be optimistic. The driver has failed to finish from P2 in two of the first three races due to technical errors. In total, adding Sergio Perez’s DNF in Bahrain, Red Bull has lost out on nearly 50 points.
Christian Horner’s optimism comes in from the fact that we’re only done with the third race of the season and still have 20 rounds to go. The boss also believes that having a fast car at hand is essential, and since they have that, they can resolve any of the issues that arise. As quoted by Motorsportweek, he said, “We’re just about 10 percent of the way into the championship, so I think there’s still a huge amount to go. The encouraging thing is we’ve got the basis of a quick car.”
Speaking of Ferrari’s flawless performance, Horner said, “Ferrari was out of reach [on Sunday]. Their window that they were in with their tire, you could just see they weren’t experiencing the problems either through blistering that some of the cars were experiencing, or graining that we experienced.”
Christian Horner’s redressal of the issues
Since the beginning of the season, Red Bull and its sister team AlphaTauri have suffered technical issues. In the first race 3 out of the 4 DNFed, followed by Yuki Tsunoda‘s failure in Saudi Arabia and Max Verstappen’s in Australia.
Christian Horner, speaking of these issues said, “We’ve seen it across the two teams, a few issues. They’ve all been independent. None of them have been related. We obviously need to understand those and address them quickly because even on a day that we weren’t as quick as Ferrari we were guaranteed second place.”
Ending his opinion on a high note, Horner said, “But there’s still a huge percentage of the championship still to run, but we need to get on top of these issues quickly.”
Currently, Max stands 46 points behind the Leclerc. If Red Bull does get on top of these issues quickly, Max Verstappen can have a genuine run at defending his championship against the high-flying Charles Leclerc.
