“I was gonna retire, I will not no more,” Daniel Ricciardo hilarious reaction on Las Vegas GP announcement
Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo reportedly stated, most undoubtedly jokingly, that he intended to depart from Formula One before the Las Vegas Grand Prix was officially announced, which allegedly changed his stance.
The cars will take in the main sights of the streets of Vegas in a newly launched night race, which will take place from 2023 onwards, when Formula 1 arrives in Sin City in the next season. Formula One released a new video showing the drivers’ initial reactions when a photograph of the iconic ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ placard was passed to them, with Esteban Ocon in particular wide-eyed at the spectre of racing in Nevada starting next year.
“I was gonna retire, I will not no more,” Ricciardo said with a big grin and a snap of his fingers after learning that a third American race is on the way. His existing agreement is expected to last until the end of 2023, but Ricciardo and McLaren have had a tricky start this season, despite the fact that the Australian considered a double points wrap up for the team was possible in Saudi Arabia at the weekend before having to retire due to a drive failure.
Reactions on the Las Vegas Grand Prix from the grid
The response to Las Vegas’ inclusion on the schedule has been largely supportive, with a high-speed setup through the downtown streets generating excitement among drivers. “That’s going to be a pretty hardcore event,” Lewis Hamilton chuckled. “Knowing it’s a real party city, it’s difficult for a racing driver – how am I going to focus that weekend? There’s going to be so much going on.”
4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel with a smile added, “I’m sure some drivers will spend some money in the casinos, and hopefully try and gain it back on Sunday.” Current defending world champion Max Verstappen jested, “Let’s not do back-to-back for this one, let’s give it two weeks’ break before and after!”
“This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the United States,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali of the new race. Las Vegas is a world-renowned destination known for its exuberance, hospitality, adrenaline rush, and, of course, the famous Strip. “There is no better place for Formula One to race than in the world’s entertainment capital, and we can’t wait to be back here next year.” I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this event, particularly Governor Sisolak, the Clark County Commission, Steve Hill at the LVCVA, and our local partners.”
