”I’m putting my money on it,” Kevin Magnussen on his podium hopes in 2022

Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen earned himself a call up to the Formula One main grid in 2022, after Haas decided to part ways with Nikita Mazepin, amidst the political tensions. His call up came just one year after Haas decided to go into the 2021 season with a new look tea, featuring two new rookies.

Kevin Magnussen has already been grabbing the headlines in the 2022 season, after grabbing two point finishes in three races so far. Haas failed to score a single point in the 2021 season, and Magnussen turned around their fortunes in just one race. He finished P5 in Bahrain, bringing home 10 crucial points. Moreover, he backed it up with a P9 finish in Jeddah, which takes Haas’ total tally to 12 points for the season.

Although, Haas faced a reality check in Australia, Kevin Magnussen is optimistic about a podium finish in 2022. He refuses to rule out a possibility, but accepts that it will be a difficult task. We are just three races into the season, and there is plenty of time left for Magnussen to achieve this feat.

Kevin Magnussen had one of the most incredible F1 debuts, after he finished on the podium in the 2014 Australian GP. He has scored 170 points in his F1 career, however, another podium finish has been hard to come by for the Haas driver.

Speaking about his 2022 podium chances, he remains bullish, given that Haas have shown good pace in the early parts of the season. “It’s not totally unrealistic to dream about it. I don’t think you can expect it because we are not fast enough to get there just on pure pace… but I’m dreaming about it. I’m putting my money on it,” said Magnussen.

Having someone as experienced as Kevin Magnussen in the ranks will also allow Mick Schumacher to grow at Haas. The German driver has bags of potential, and we could see him score points on a consistent basis this season.
