Williams F1
After the launch of the Williams car described by Latifi as “fresh” and Albon did as “blue”, Williams has become the 6th team on the grid to reveal their car for the 2022 season. The team was last to announce their date of unveiling. 2022 season of F1 will bring in new regulations for the cars, which will also bring a new era to the sport and mark the end of the hybrid era after eight years. The early reaction to the launch event seems to be negative. The fans also criticized the team for not revealing the actual car.
Last season the Williams team finished 8th in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of Alfa Romeo and Haas, thanks to the P2 secured by the now ex-driver George Russell in Belgium. Replacing George Russell is the driver Alex Albon, who’s making a comeback to the sport, having raced last in 2020 for Red Bull.
The new car launch comes ahead of the first pre-season testing in Barcelona. The launch featured the drivers, Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon, and alongside them was the team principal and CEO, Jost Capito.
Jost Capito, Nicholas Latifi, and Alex Albon share their thoughts on the Williams car and regulations
Jost Capito is hopeful of closer racing in the 2022 season as the aerodynamics of the new cars due to the new regulations are very different, which shall allow closer racing as there will be less of the dirty air behind the cars on the track. The boss was appreciative of both the drivers and reaffirmed that both Latifi and Albon deserve to be in the team.
The Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi is hopeful to be fighting on the grid in the coming season. The driver, entering into the third year with Williams, said, “Going into a new year new regulations new cars you know a fresh start for everybody and I think you know having that experience within the team is going to be you know it’s going to be really helpful and be crucial to kind of help push everyone to develop the car and yeah get us back into more fighting ways.”
Latifi was abused on social media as the driver was involved in an accident during the Abu Dhabi GP. The driver mentioned he took time off from the world of motorsport and spent time with his family.
Alex Albon, on his return to the sport, said, ” It’s good. It feels like a year out you’re kind of itching to get going, and just makes you hungry to get back into the seat. So for me, it was much more about trying to get as much experience as I could. That year out was actually a way to see things from a different perspective, see how the team operates. In a way that it’s not just purely focused on the driving side but how a team operates.”
