Alex Albon
Alex Albon chose Williams to mark his return to F1. The driver replaced the Mercedes departing George Russell. And Albon’s comeback certainly has had a good start as the driver went on to pick a point in the Australian GP after finishing P10.
While the FW44, the Williams car for the 2022 season, might not be the best, the strategy worked during the race worked out pretty well for Albon. He drove the car on a single set of hard tires for the 57 of the 58 laps of the race and only pitted for a single lap.
The driver isn’t unfamiliar with podiums and podiums. Before the Australian GP, he had 197 points with 2 podiums with Red Bull to his name. Speaking of the result in Australia, Alex Albon said, “We’re not spraying champagne or raising the trophies, that bit is always very nice, but it feels just as sweet.”
Why Alex Albon thinks this point was crucial?

The single point grabbed by Alex puts Williams 9th in the constructors’ championship as the team earned its first point of the season. This season it came in the third race whereas, last season, the team had to wait for 11 races for their first points.
Albon talked about the importance of the point. He said, “It’s a much-needed result. When you have a tough start to the season, you want to switch that momentum and have positivity. It’s hard when you don’t get good results, but it motivates me, it motivates the team to get that point on the board, and now we’re hungry for more.”
Speaking of his impressive stint on the hard tires, Albon said, “I thought that one of the Haas’ boxed in front of me, and that’s the point when I thought ‘Okay, it’s going to be a tricky race now’ because that DRS was saving me from being overtaken by the pack behind.”
“But once we got clear air, we just went, and we were on much older tyres than the guys around us, keeping pace more or less with the McLarens and at the very end pulling away from the Alpines,” he concluded.
Williams had gotten off to a shaky start this season. But this single point might push the team and the drivers for more effort and success. With the next race coming up at Imola, the team would hope to prevent any accident like that of Russell’s in 2021.
