Lewis Hamilton criticizes Mercedes after a lackluster performance at Monaco GP
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton endured one of his toughest races in the recent years, as he managed to finish only seventh at the Monaco GP on Sunday. The Briton won the race in 2019, and entered the weekend as the heavy favorite. However, the 36-year old was nowhere close to his best this weekend, as he falls behind in the championship battle.
Lewis Hamilton finished seventh in the qualifying session on Saturday, and struggled to get any sort of grip. The Briton would start in the fourth row, alongside Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton failed to make up any places on Sunday, and was looking all out of sorts in Monte Carlo. However, he stated that Mercedes will have to go back to the drawing board and work on their errors.
“It’s another street circuit, another one that’s a really cold, smooth circuit, another that we could easily struggle at again, similar to here,” added Hamilton. We’ll just have to work and see how we can minimize that loss,” said Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton wants Mercedes to learn some lessons from Sunday’s race
Lewis Hamilton should have by all means finished atleast fifth on Sunday, as the likes of Valtteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc did not finish the race. However, as strategic error from Mercedes cost him some track position as Sergio Perez went way clear of Hamilton.
Speaking after the race, Hamilton was asked if he took any lessons from the weekend. The Briton stated that his team certainly had to take a lot of lessons from the disastrous performance. “For me, personally I am not so sure, but the team, definitely yes,” said Hamilton when asked about the lessons learned.
Lewis Hamilton slipped to the second place in the championship, and has 101 points to his name so far. On the other hand, Max Verstappen surpassed the Briton to claim the top spot, and has 105 points in the opening five races. This is the first time that the 23-year old racer is leading the championship in his five-year career.
