Max Verstappen moves to the top of the championship, as he finished P1 at the Monaco GP on Sunday. The Dutch driver was given a clear start, as Charles Leclerc was ruled out of the race due to gearbox damage. Leclerc held the pole position, whereas, Verstappen would start from the second spot.

Max Verstappen was put in a spot of bother by Valtteri Bottas for a moment during the start, but the Dutch driver defended aggressively to lead the race. It was all Verstappen during the final race, as the 23-year old was unchallenged for majority of the race. The Red Bull driver claimed the second win of his season on Sunday, and has been enjoying a dream start to the season. His teammate, Sergio Perez finished on the fourth spot, after making up five places in the main race.

Max Verstappen leads the championship for the first time in his five year long career as he claimed all 25 points on Sunday. The Dutch driver has 105 points from his five races this season, whereas, Lewis Hamilton is second with 101 points. The Briton struggled throughout the week in Monaco, and only managed to finish seventh.

Max Verstappen was delighted after Sunday’s win and believes that he was in control of the tyres and the race. “It’s so special to win. The first time [for me] on the podium here. It was all about looking after the tyres. I was pretty much in control,” said the Dutch driver.

The next race of the season will take place in Azerbaijan in a few weeks time. Lewis Hamilton will aim to regain his lead at the top of the championship, whereas, Max Verstappen will hope to solidify his position. So far, Max Verstappen has won the Imola and Monaco GP’s, and has finished second in Bahrain, Portugal and Spain.
