McLaren and Lego collaborate to launch the first-ever F1 race car with a surprising twist

The third most successful team in Formula 1 with eight Constructors’ championships, McLaren, along with the 90-year-old toy company Lego, has announced the first Lego model of an F1 car. The model car is based on McLaren’s 2021 car MCL35M and has 1432 pieces in total. The team will launch their 2022 challenger MCL36 on 11 February 2022, alongside their IndyCar, Extreme E, and Shadow E sports variants.
The McLaren F1 team finished at P4 with 275 points. The team’s most successful race of the season came at Monza, where they bagged the first and second position, along with the fastest lap of the race.
This latest Lego will be a part of the Technic series of the brand that has previously featured other motorsport vehicles such as a 1580-piece Porsche 911 RSR GTE car, a 1682-piece AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE, and a McLaren Senna GT car. In a video released by Lego on Twitter, James Key, the technical director of McLaren F1, appears and announces the latest combined effort. The drivers of the team, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, also make an appearance in the video.
In another video, shared by the team, Ricciardo and Norris are having a go at the new model.
What did McLaren’s James Key say on the latest project?
The team’s technical director, James Key, said, “We are excited to unveil the unique Lego Technic model of our McLaren F1 car, a fun and engaging product that celebrates our 2021 season livery while giving fans a hands-on interpretation of the new 2022 F1 car design.”
“This has been made possible by an agile collaboration with the Lego Group team, who have truly embraced the spirit of our brave and bold approach to design. The final product looks fantastic, and we cannot wait to make this available to our fans”, James concluded.
The collab product will be in stores from 1 March 2022 and can be bought from both online and offline stores.
