From 7 time World Champion to an apprentice, it seems whoever Mercedes work with has a Racing DNA in them. Take a look at Merc’s apprentice Ellie Pacey. She works on Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 car. And in her spare time, she competes in the rather vague sounding sport – tractor pulling.
In the all-new BBC Three series: The Fast and the Farmer-ish, two teams of young farmers from around the UK get behind the wheels of different tractors to compete in racing and skills driving challenges. Pacey drives a pink Valtra tractor for her team, the Diva Drivers.
In tractor Pulling, modified trucks from each team compete to pull heavy sledges over an 11-metre wide, 100-metre long track. The team that pulls the sledge the furthest in the least amount of time is declared the winner. Pacey has described the event as something not much about speed as it is about power and driving ability.

Ellie Pacey: “I went to my first event at two weeks old”

In an interview with BBC Sport about tractors, and her time at the sport. She started her journey when she was eight years old and drove a bright pink “ride-on lawnmower” and has since then moved to bigger machinery. She is the only child of a mechanic and racing enthusiast.
“My dad always made it clear to me growing up that, even though I was a girl, I was still going to have to work on my own tractor and get involved in messy, manual jobs,” she says, adding, “He said, ‘just because you’re a girl, you’re not going to get away with it’.”
“I discovered that I enjoyed running engines, seeing how much power you can get out of them, what changes you can make and what actually happens when you make those changes,” Pacey says. She added that “Mercedes have quite a few female engineers and designers. There is at least one other girl in the same position as me on my course and other female engineers too.”
With a longing affinity for engines and racing, she pursued her engineering from the Silverstone University Technical College. Together with her father, Pacey is among the most successful drivers in the UK, finishing second in the British Championship last season.
