The 2022 season of F1 is all set to bring in the new era of the sport. New regulations for the car after eights years of the hybrid era are building up the hype. And to put the changes in perspective, we’re witnessing the largest changes in roughly forty years of the sport, which will change the way teams race.
In February 2022, all the teams on the grid unveiled their new cars ahead of the first round of pre-season testing in Barcelona. The unveiling started with the Haas F1 team and ended with Alfa Romeo’s display of their 2022 livery two days after the testing ended in Barcelona.
The unveiling also became a chance for the teams to show their prowess not only on the track but also their fan base’s strength and loyalty. And to no one’s surprise, Mercedes not only came out on top of the timesheets in Barcelona, they also topped the social value judged by the impressions and engagements made on social media.
Who followed Mercedes, and why did the Silver Arrows come out on top?

In a tweet by Zoomph, we got to see the grid’s team’s engagements and impressions over different social media platforms. The numbers were included from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram till the 3rd of March 2022.
Mercedes came out on P1 and were followed by the orange army of McLaren. Max Verstappen’s team, Red Bull, ranked third, which comes as a surprise to many. Mercedes’ social value is nearly equivalent to that of McLaren’s and Red Bull’s combined.
It can be argued that Mercedes fan following has been built heavily due to the team’s immense success in the hybrid era. Lewis Hamilton, due to his on-track success and off-track philanthropy has helped the team build a strong and large community.
