Ralf Schumacher underlines the annoying aspect of Mick Schumacher’s crash in Saudi Arabia
Mick Schumacher's crash at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying
Brother to F1 legend Michael Schumacher and uncle to the Haas driver Mick Schumacher and the ex-F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher, in his column for Sky F1 Germany, looks at the accident of Mick Schumacher from a different perspective. He points out an aspect that he believes is crucial for the Haas driver.
Ralf, in his column, has said, “The risk after such a crash is, of course, higher. But that’s a problem for Mick because now he’s missing one race in experience. The error had very strong consequences, very annoying.”
Mick Schumacher crashed into the concrete wall during Q2 for the Saudi Arabian GP. The driver’s accident was reported to be off 33gs, following which he was taken to the hospital. However, he didn’t miss the race because of his health as he didn’t concur any injury, but due to the lack of spare parts for the car.
Ralf Schumacher’s words for Mick Schumacher
The former driver said, “Of course, Mick’s crash looked very dramatic, but every racing driver chops off such an accident very quickly. And it was obvious to see that it wasn’t that bad for him, he was super fit. It’s more like hurt pride because he was on a fast lap and made a mistake.”
Ralf also spoke of the team’s lack of parts for the car. He said, “The team then had to decide not to let him drive so that there was enough material for the next race in Melbourne. Haas can’t take the risk, there aren’t enough spare parts, and the car was a total write-off. And if something had happened again, he wouldn’t have been able to compete in Melbourne.”
Mick and Haas, both are off to a strong start in the 2022 season. The team, after a long development, seems to have a good car in its hands. So far, they’ve bagged points in both the races and look strong going to the Australian GP as well.
