Along with the obvious excitement from Formula One fans for the livery reveals for all 10 teams, one more thing that the fans look forward to is the drivers’ helmet reveals.

George Russell has been the buzz of the approaching 2022 Formula One season because of his promotion from Williams Racing to Mercedes AMG Petronas. He’s also the very first driver from Mercedes junior drivers programme to successfully climb the ranks as a works driver.

George Russell has usually donned helmets that have mostly the red hue. Red is also a colour that is synonymous with Formula One legend Michael Schumacher who donned red for a major chunk of his professional career as a racing driver.

He recently revealed his helmet for the upcoming 2022 Formula One season where he’ll be driving for Mercedes alongside 7 time World Drivers’ Championship winner Lewis Hamilton.

He explained the whole idea behind his unique helmet in a video posted by Mercedes on their social media handles.

George Russell opined on his new helmet, stating that it was quite different to the previous helmet which he had used. He stated that he went for a bold color because he was really looking forward to using it.

“Quite different in colours compared to what I’ve had previously,” said Russell in the posted video, hinting at his previous red helmets.

I’ve gone for quite a bold black this season. The reason for that is I wanted to bring forward a really bold colour.”

He then further mentioned how he kept red on his helmet as a form of respect to rehabilitating Schumacher who hasn’t made any public appearances since his skiing accident in 2013. Michael Schumacher drove for Mercedes throughout 2010-12.

The helmet which is mainly black has a red band mentioning sponsor Crowdstrike with additional blue detailing on it.

I think it looks really cool and really aggressive,” mentioned Russell.

Pre-testing season begins on February 23 when we’ll get to see Russell don the new helmet in the brand new W13 which is supposed to launch on February 18, Friday at Silverstone at the launch event.
