Robust decisions taken by the FIA President during an important WMSC meeting

New FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem

The newly elected President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, else known as the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has set off his term with immediate and robust decisions.

Ben Sulayem assumed the office under tremendous pressure and is poised to take actions upfront following the finale of the 2021 season of F1 in Abu Dhabi. Last month, under his leadership, FIA confirmed that a detailed analysis of the said finale is underway, and a report is to be presented in a month, due on 14th February 2022. 

There has been an update on this investigation, mentioning the course of action that the report of detailed analysis will follow.

WMSC is the World Motor Sport Council has the responsibility to oversee the rules, regulations, safety, and development of motorsports, all the way from karting to F1. The council meets at least four times a year.

The WMSC is made up of the FIA President, the Deputy President for Sport, 7 Vice-Presidents, 14 titular members, and 5 members by right.

FIA has been under severe scrutiny over the years for its functioning. Ben Sulayem is looking to change its image with immediate actions. He looks out to change its structure and governance and believes that it’s a “new era for the organization [FIA].“

FIA stated, “The launch of a new and robust governance process, including a fully independent financial audit of the FIA, and the recruitment of an FIA Chief Executive Officer.”

“Governance topics such as transparency and collaboration were at the heart [of these meetings].“

The newly elected President looks out to “giving the new road map clear legitimacy and strong momentum for the years to come”.
