Sergio Perez ready for 2022 F1 season more so than ever: “Important that I stay consistent”

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez had a dynamic season at Red Bull last season as he spent his first season with the Austrian-based racing team in 2021. He has been exceptional at Red Bull in 2021 given the fact that it was his first stint with Christian Horner-led racing team. He secured 1 win and 5 podiums in 2021.

The Mexican driver is contractually bound to Red Bull till the end of 2022, so if he’s planning to secure his seat at Red Bull beside recently crowned world champion Max Verstappen, he’ll have to make sure to display his prowess as a driver this season and prove his worth as a driver worthy of the seat so as to not get replaced.

He proved his worth as a reliable team-player in the last race of the 2021 F1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where he managed to keep 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at bay for quite some time when the latter was initially leading the race so as to ensure that teammate Max Verstappen gets the time to attack the Briton in the later laps and regain his timing.

In an official statement released by Red Bull Racing, the Mexican driver said, “I am looking forward to the new season, automatically you feel more settled going into your second year with a team. I feel more prepared because I now know exactly how the Team operate and the Oracle Red Bull Racing philosophy, so that makes a difference”.

Perez further elaborated on the uncertainty that revolves around the 2022 season of F1. Things seem to be more unsure now due to the newly implemented technical rules and regulations. It’s difficult to determine how the season is going to play out at this point.

“Every team is in the same position starting the season, in that we don’t know the car as much because of the shakeup in regulations but we had a really good test, both in Bahrain and Barcelona. It will be interesting to see where everyone is come Sunday when the flag comes down and I think it will make for a good race. I am very excited for 2022 and I know the important thing is that I am consistent throughout the year – I am up for the fight,” said the 32-year-old driver.
