Netflix’s hit docufiction series ‘Drive to Survive‘ released on Friday earlier last week. The much anticipated series garnered more attention than usual before dropping its fourth season because of the eventful season that 2021 was. The 2021 F1 season was full of dramatic turns in the sport which were much enjoyed by the millions of Formula One fans all over the world.
The one main reason why this season of ‘Drive to Survive’ gained a massive amount of attention this time around was because of the fact that this season will feature the rather unreal events that took place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last season. Last season saw the end of an autocracy of world drivers’ champions in Lewis Hamilton and the start of a new era as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinched his maiden championship title.
However, the much-talked about series isn’t particularly liked by all the drivers on the grid. Drivers like McLaren’s Lando Norris have been very vocal about the negative reception that the docufiction series has attained along with the over-dramatization that they display in the episodes that is often not in accordance with what happened in reality.

In the fourth edition of ‘Drive to Survive’, Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas has been featured quite a lot alongside former Mercedes teammate and 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. In fact, one of the episodes in the fourth season, the eighth episode focused solely on the future of Bottas’ seat at Mercedes. His seat was eventually offered to former Williams Racing driver George Russell, who’s the first driver in the Mercedes’ junior driver programme to successfully complete it.
Bottas was left with no option but to join Italian racing team Alfa Romeo where he’ll be seen driving this season alongside F1 debutante Guanyu Zhou. On being asked if the information shown on ‘Drive to Survive’ is correct, Bottas replied, “I haven’t seen any of that, so I don’t really know.” He also added on how Netflix prefers to focus on small parts of the season that are broadcasted without any prior context. He also established the fact that he doesn’t like ” watching himself on television”.
The 2022 F1 season officially starts this weekend with the commencement of the first Grand Prix this season at the Bahrain International Circuit in the heart of the Sakhir desert.
