Ferrari's Charles Leclerc after the Bahrain GP win

Charles Leclerc has started the 2022 Formula One season on a great note with the Ferrari driver winning the Bahrain Grand Prix and bringing the Italian-based racing team a win after a drought of 910 days. The Monégasque racing driver had also secured the pole position on Saturday due to which he started right at the start of the grid with defending world champion Max Verstappen right behind him at P2. Max Verstappen however failed to finish the race along with teammate Sergio Perez due to suspected fuel issues.

Leclerc who ran on soft tyres for the entirety of the race at the Bahrain International Circuit made sure to hold on to his lead till the very end of the race apart from laps 17, 18 and 19 when there was a tussle for the lead between Leclerc and Verstappen. Verstappen was able to overtake Leclerc twice with notable slipstreaming only for Leclerc to reclaim his lead with the use of DRS.

Leclerc won the opening race in Formula One’s new ground effect aerodynamic regime, toeing the line clear of Sainz in a double Ferrari podium, with Hamilton grabbing a surprise podium thanks to Red Bull’s two DNFs.

Ferrari didn’t exactly have the best run in the last few seasons with the team failing to get any win since 2019 and a championship title since 2008. But Leclerc’s phenomenal performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix along with the prowess of the reliable F1-75 seemed to give a lot of hope to all the Ferrari fans after his win.

The 24-year-old driver highlighted on how the team couldn’t have hoped for a better result considering the fact that Ferrari managed to secure a 1-2 podium finish with Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz right behind the former at P2 after getting the chance to gain on the time when Verstappen had to retire his car who was earlier running at P2.

The teams will again face off against each other this weekend at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
