“I think P3 is probably a step too far,” Otmar Szafnauer on Aston Martin’s chances this season

Otmar Szafnauer, Aston Martin team principal believes that the team must be realistic about their chances this season. Aston Martin finished fourth in the constructors championship last season, but have fallen down in the pecking order so far this season.

Aston Martin have managed to secure just seven points from their opening four races of the season. All points for Aston Martin have been delivered by Lance Stroll so far. Sebastian Vettel who joined the team this season, has failed to register a single point so far.

Aston Martin now find themselves behind the likes of McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine and AlphaTauri, and hope to catch up in the coming races.

Unfortunately I think P3 is probably a step too far. We will fight hard in the midfield to see how high we can go. But yeah, we’d like to be in the top half by the end of the year,” said Otmar Szafnauer.

Otmar Szafnauer stated that Aston Martin is not happy with the position they find themselves in. There will be a change in technical regulations from the next season, which will make it a level playing field for all teams.

We’ve got to be realistic as to what we can do with a frozen car, a frozen rake and regulations that are significantly changing for 2022. So, we just have to be realistic to understand the situation we’re in, and do the best we can with the car and the tools that we have,” he said.

“For sure there’s always pressure when you’re not achieving where you thought you were going to achieve. But like I said, we all have to be realistic and do what we can, without compromising the 2022 programme,” Szafnauer added.
