“We’re in store for a real successful decade in Formula 1” : Zak Brown anticipates glorious days ahead of Formula One

The last season was anything but short of dramatic events now and then in the sport of Formula One. What is even more notable is that a record 108.7 million viewers around the world witnessed the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix-the title decider race on their streams. The title decider was between two very competent drivers, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The title decider ended with Dutchman Max Verstappen clinching his maiden championship title.

The upcoming 2022 season will see a completely new set of rules and regulations which have already been somewhat visible in the new liveries of all the 10 teams on the grid for the approaching season. The new regulations have been implemented with the primary focus of increasing the cars’ ability to overtake.

Formula One as a sport has gained a strong commercial foothold. It is because of the exposure of the sport through digital platforms and streaming media like Netflix, explained Brown. “A lot of corporate partners coming in. We’ve been having a lot of success for some time. We’ve over 45 partners now on-car and licensing, and over a dozen joined us last year, some of the world’s biggest companies,” added Zak Brown, Mclaren’s CEO in reference to the digitalization of the sport.

“[It’s] great to see others in the sport bringing in first-class global organizations, so I think we’re in a very healthy state.”

Formula One incorporated the concept of expenditure limitations in the previous season which left the teams on the grid into deciding between developing their 2021 liveries or using that money in accommodating the changes in the 2022 season.

Even though not all teams will be able to run at the cap right away, the decision has drastically reduced the gap between those with the largest those with the smallest budgets. “With the on-track competition being what it is, the financial budget cap being in place, the racing should get closer,” added Brown. “I think we’re in store for a real successful decade in Formula 1.”

The 2022 Formula One season will feature the same duo for Mclaren as the previous year, i.e. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo in the drivers’ seats.
