Williams, unlike the teams around it in the 2021 season, has failed to make progress and is yet to make an appearance in the midfield this season. The introduction of the new regulations presented the team with an opportunity to grow and get ahead, but they clearly failed to capitalize on it.

Their car for the season, FW44, appears to be low on pace and grips, thus making it an imbalanced car. Speaking of the situation of the car, Williams driver Nicholas Latifi said“As a team and on the personal side, we’re still trying to understand the car. It’s kind of, let’s say, performance envelope and the limitations, and it’s obvious we’re not where we want to be as a team.”

While Alex Albon’s single point in Australia showed the team some hope and motivation, Latifi’s statement shows that the morale has taken a hit in the team’s garage. However, with the season being only done nearly only 15% of its entirety, Williams can still push for a place in the midfield.

The Canadian driver has been on the Williams team for 3 years. And so far in this season, his performance has been abysmal, partially due to the poor car and luck.

Latifi while identifying the key problematic areas of the car, said, [We are] not only struggling with overall downforce but also the balance of the car,” added Latifi. It’s quite tricky at the moment It caught me out a few times with the unpredictability we’re having, so it’s still learning a lot every session we do.”

Williams appeared to have made progress and presented itself as a team that’ll be making a move for the midfield. However, if they keep up with the current pace, they’ll be forced to end another season on the back.
