Would 2022 be Sebastian Vettel’s last year in F1 if the situation at Aston Martin doesn’t improve?
Sebastian Vettel
Everybody knows Sebastian Vettel is not your ordinary driver. Vettel, fondly known as the Fireman Seb, Detective Seb amongst plenty of other designations, is one of the most loved drivers on the grid. The Aston Martin driver is a four-time world champion, all of them coming consecutively from 2010-2013 with Red Bull.
But, the recent years haven’t been easy for the German driver. After leaving Red Bull for Ferrari, he has had quite difficult years. And the struggles don’t appear to be ending soon, as he and Aston Martin both have had a terrible start to the 2022 season.
Vettel had to miss the first two races after he was diagnosed to be positive with covid-19. Finally, upon his return in the Australian GP, the driver couldn’t have a single session without an issue or a crash. His “abnormal” performance was flagged by the team principal, who said they’ll take Vettel’s feedback to improve the car. And after this terrible start, Vettel already looks frustrated, and there are speculations that the driver may retire from F1 after his contract expires at the end of the season.
What fuels Sebastian Vettel’s retirement rumors?
Vettel, after the launch of AMR22 in February, cleared out he still wants to win and that’s something on which his future rests as well. As quoted by Givemesport, he said, “From a certain point, I’ll start thinking about the future. After my successes in the past, it is only logical that I still want to win. So my future will depend on that.”
It’s only natural that the German wants to win. But with the current car that he has been given, chances of that happening are bleak. After the Australian GP, one of Vettel’s teammates, Paul di Resta said, “He just looks disinterested. I don’t know that’s the impression I get. That’s not for me to say, but he’s thinking something different.”
Apart from this, Vettel himself has confirmed that the thought of retirement came to his mind after he left Ferrari. If the German doesn’t get the motivation, that can only come from a good car, we could be witnessing the veteran’s final season in F1 if he doesn’t land a seat in a fast car.
