Francisco Lindor’s Miscues in 2-1 Loss Against Cardinals Angers Mets Fans: “His Brain Is Taking Mini-Vacations”
Francisco Lindor had a day to forget on Wednesday as he slipped up twice in the 2-1 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Francisco Lindor did not have the best of times on the field on Wednesday. In the game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the shortstop made two mistakes, which left the New York Mets angry on social media.
After winning the series opener 4-2 on Monday, the Mets got shut out for the first time this season. A 3-0 loss on Tuesday left the team with a 3-2 record and leveled the series.
In an afternoon where the Mets’ offense struggled to produce something significant, it was Lindor’s mistakes that stole the headlines. In the first inning, the 5-time All-Star forgot the total number of outs while his team was fielding.
After Alec Burleson hit a ground ball, Lindor would field it with ease and step on second base to force out Ivan Herrera. However, the 32-year-old forgot the number of outs and started jogging towards the dugout, thinking that it was the third out when, in fact, it was the second out and missed out on a routine double play.
Looks like Francisco Lindor forgot how many outs there were on this potential double play. 😬

Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta was forced to throw out 5 more pitches to get out of the inning. This lapse from Lindor however, did not cost them any runs.
His second mistake came in the 6th inning when the game was still scoreless. After he reached the first base through a fielding error, Juan Soto came up to bat.
During Soto’s at-bat, Lindor got picked off at 1st base. He was caught while he tried to adjust his glove.

Moments later, Soto would crush his first home run of the 2026 season to put the Mets 1-0 up. Had Lindor not been picked off, the Mets could have been 2-0 up.
Francisco Lindor, what’s going on?

First, he’s involved in a routine double play but loses track of how many outs there were in the inning. Then, with Juan Soto at the plate, he gets himself out at first base. Moments later, Soto hits a home run in that same inning that… pic.twitter.com/CJu88ak4eX
In the end, the Mets ended up losing 2-1 in extra innings. Mason Wynn‘s fly ball would land in no man’s land with 3 fielders racing in an attempt to make the play. The Cardinals thus walked off the Mets and took the series.

Worst game as a Met, maybe? If we are going to be a contender we need him to lead.

With the bat, Lindor went 0-for-4 in the game while earning a walk. This brought his batting average down to .143 for the season.
Francisco Lindor owns up his mistake following series loss against Cardinals
Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets suffered disappointment on Wednesday as they lost the series against the St. Louis Cardinals. After the game, the former Cleveland Guardians star owned his mistakes.

While speaking with the reporters, he admitted that he forgot the total number of outs and called it “inexcusable.”
I forgot the outs, I made a mistake that probably cost Peralta to go an extra inning because he had to throw more pitches after that. Inexcusable. He probably could have gone six, maybe seven.

The Mets’ next assignment sees them take on the San Francisco Giants in a 4-game road trip. After that, they will return to Citi Field to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Athletics.
