Frank Lampard gives his verdict on Fulham win
Frank Lampard was pleased with his side’s performance and lauded the player’s efforts. He believes it was a well earned victory for the visitors and that they fully deserved it.
Chelsea did threaten the Fulham goal a lot of times but we’re continuously denied by the efforts of goalkeeper Areola. And at the heart of it all was young attacking midfielder Mason Mount.
At first it was thunderous strike from just inside the box which left Areola stranded but unfortunately that attempt rattled the bar. His next chance came when he delivered a beautiful ball from the corner and Rudiger met it strongly only to be palmed away by Areola again.
Finally Mason Mount broke the deadlock in the 78th minute when he found a loose ball after Ben Chilwell delivered a ball. He volleyed the ball into the net with a strong hit.
It was really important to remain calm. Our recent league form has not been what we want and we have gone from being the top goalscorers in the league to not. When you’re facing a low block you have to try and find a pass that goes through a line or a bit of magic. It wasn’t quite there until Mason’s goal, but the patience and movement of the ball was good.
‘It was apt Mason got the goal,’ added Lampard. ‘His overall performance was outstanding, but the spirit of the team was great.
