Frank Lampard prioritises top four rather than the title at the moment
Chelsea defeated Fulham by a goal to nil to return to winning ways in the Premier League. A late second half goal from Mason Mount was enough to seal all three points for the blues who were desperate for a win.
Chelsea had lost four of their last six Premier league outings and hence faced a crunch situation when they visited Fulham. Now with the win in their pocket they can look to capitalise.
Frank Lampard on Chelsea’s current form
At one stage during early December Chelsea were sitting pretty at the top of the table when they were on the back of their 17 game unbeaten run. Goals were being scored for fun, the defence was impenetrable and everything looked like bliss.
However slowly things started to deteoriate and now they find themselves at seventh position in the league table. It was an extremely rough winter period for Frank Lampard and his men who faced a congested schedule.
Right now just five points seperate the top six position in the Premier League as all the teams have faced problems with injuries and such a tight schedule. Hence when Chelsea visit Leicester City they have a chance to reduce the deficit.
Manager Frank Lampard believes that at this stage of time, top four is the main aim for the club and getting that UEFA Champions League berth rather than going for the title.
There is no reason to say whether we will get back into it (the title race) or not at the moment,” said Lampard at his match press conference.
“We just need to consider the games in front of us and try to win them, to push ourselves steadily up the table.
“We are not in a bad position, we have had a bad short period of form and if we can put wins together this month then the picture will change very quickly — as it has done already this year in so many ways.“
