In the 11 seasons Nikola Jokic has played in the NBA, he has not missed more than 12 games in any of them. His durability has been a big reason the Denver Nuggets surged to become one of the best teams in the league.
As someone who grew up in the middle of wars, the Serbian is known for his toughness, who can hold his own against other bruising big men, while also being deft enough to dance around with the agile ones. Even though his team has been facing some inconsistency of late, the Joker has managed to put up some heady numbers. Last season, he claimed it was his best run.
He ended up losing to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander both in the MVP race and in the run to another NBA title. This time, he has mildly changed his approach, focusing on building chemistry with the retooled squad, getting them into rhythm before taking over when needed.
After losing a close game to the Orlando Magic, Nikola Jokic again led by example, scoring 21 points in less than 20 minutes, while also dishing out 8 assists, as they kept pace with the Miami Heat. Then, as his team was trying to defend against the home team, teammate Spencer Jones planted his right foot on his superstar teammate’s left foot.

Instantly, Nikola Jokic went down clutching his left knee, as he was writhing in pain. When the team’s medical staff came over, they got him back on his feet, after which the center limped back to the locker room.
Fans left stunned after Nikola Jokic’s injury
When replays of the freak collision continued on the live broadcast as well as on social media, fans were left wondering if Nikola Jokic had suffered a major knee injury. Since they are on the road, the three-time league MVP will have to wait until he can get the necessary tests to determine the extent of damage to his left knee.
The concern is that for someone as durable as the Nuggets star, clutching his knee in that fashion has fans worried it could be an ACL tear, which would end his season. Check out examples of those reactions below.
I hope it’s not an acl tear 😭😭😭

The NBA is a million times better when Jokic plays… really hope it’s not serious

Not a DEN fan but Jokic getting hurt is not something I wanna see (or any player for that matter), but especially one putting up another MVP level year. I hope it's nothing serious

Doesn’t look good

His foot got stepped on while moving his leg and his knee is what he ended up grabbing
Way too many injuries this year in the NBA
Probably having his best season, which is really saying something

Even if it’s just a bone bruise or something minor I hope the nuggets sit him for a few weeks just to be safe

Basketball fans might not be accurate in thinking it could be a season-ending ACL tear. It could just be a bone bruise or a knee hyperextension that could keep him out for anywhere between a few weeks and a couple of months.
However, if those fears turn out to be accurate, basketball fans will be robbed of another MVP-esque campaign and possible championship run from one of the best players in the world.
Jamal Murray details how important Nikola Jokic is to Nuggets’ hopes
With Nikola Jokic out for a while, the Denver Nuggets will be left to make some changes to how they approach games. When asked about his impact on the team’s game plan, Jamal Murray said this:

He’s not just a big part of what we do—he’s almost everything what we do.
Jamal Murray replied
Their game against the Miami Heat was a testament to his opinion, as their offense fell apart after their most important player exited the game, with the Heat winning the game 147-123.
