In one of the most anticipated World Series events in a long time, who knew that it would finish in such an epic fashion? The Los Angeles Dodgers forced extra innings and stared at a New York Yankees win on their home soil. However, Freddie Freeman had other ideas as he created history and blew the socks off the internet in the process.
After four scoreless innings, the Dodgers and Yankees traded runs as superstars Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, and Aaron Judge could not resort to their usual heroics. Instead, the game saw two of them run to score off hits from others. It was Betts’ sacrificial fly to help Ohtani run in and tie the game in the eighth inning.
But the ninth inning went scoreless, pushing the game to an extra inning. First-year Yankees’ star Jazz Chisholm Jr. proved why the Yankees wanted him with a screamer of a run to put them up. Watching all this happen, the Dodgers were not in panic mode but still had to do something about it.
First Gavin Lux walked to first base and then ran to the second, where Tommy Helman‘s infielder gave that inch of space. That brought up Shohei Ohtani, who expected to finish the job. But his strike at Nestor Cortes‘ first ball brought out a body-on-the-line catch from Alex Verdugo to send him packing.

Not wanting to take a chance, Yankees manager Aaron Boone decided to walk Mookie Betts off, loading the bases. Incoming hitter Freddie Freeman then took one look at the field and struck a 93mph inside fastball from Cortes high into the stands to record the first ever game-ending walk-off Grand Slam in MLB World Series history.
Freddie Freeman’s Walk-off Grand Slam sends fans into a frenzy
Sporting fans across the globe were watching as they felt Shohei Ohtani‘s first World Series would start with a loss. But this dramatic ending left fans speechless as they watched the ball sail through the air. They witnessed something that has never happened in the nearly 150-year history of the sport. That was from a hitter who was still hobbling due to his ankle injury.
Fans took to social media to comment on the moment. Even as Freddie Freeman slowly strutted across all bases to complete the cinematic turnaround, the internet kept blowing up. Examples of such comments are listed below.

The series has just started off, and Game 2 is tomorrow again at Dodger Stadium. The superstars of the New York Yankees will be talking about how to avoid a repeat of today’s situation. But until they come out of their dugouts, the Los Angeles Dodgers and fans will enjoy every bit of this.
