The 2024 World Series concluded on Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 5. For his performances throughout the Fall Classic, first baseman Freddie Freeman was named as the MVP of the 2024 World Series.
Despite going through an ankle injury, the 35-year-old kept on playing instead of sitting out. After failing to get going in the NLDS and the NLCS, Freeman took off from the very first game of the World Series.
After a triple against Gerrit Cole in Game 1, Freeman etched his name in history books. 3-2 down in the tenth inning, the eight-time All-star launched an iconic walk-off grand slam to lift the Dodgers in Game 1. In doing so, he became the first player to hit a walk-off grand slam in the World Series.
He would follow this up with home runs in Games 2, 3 and 4. This made him the first player to hit a home run in six consecutive World Series Games (two of them date back to Games 5 and 6 in 2021 during his time with the Atlanta Braves).
In Game 5, Freeman did not hit a home run but did manage to drive in two runs. His crucial RBIs in the fifth-inning meltdown of the Yankees turned the tide in their favor.

In the five games of the 2024 World Series, Freeman collected 12 RBIs. This saw him tie the record of Yankees’ Bobby Richardson for the most RBIs in the World Series. The Yankee star did this so in seven games during the 1960 World Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Freddie Freeman reflects on Game 5 and winning the World Series
After winning Game 5 and clinching the World Series, Freddie Freeman reflected on the event of Wednesday night. In his interviews with the press, the Dodgers star pointed out that it was a “grind” to reach the top.
While speaking with Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, Freeman claimed that it was “incredible” for them to win the World Series.

It was not a straightforward victory for the Dodgers. The team found themselves 5-0 down at one point. A huge error in the field by Aaron Judge opened the gates for a comeback for the team. Freeman later stated that all they wanted was one run to get right back in the game.
Freeman and his team will now hold a trophy parade to celebrate their success with the fans. This parade will take place on November 1, the birthday of Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away a few days before the start of the 2024 Fall Classic.
