Reigning World Series MVP Freddie Freeman provided a positive update regarding his ankle injury on Wednesday. The 8-time MLB All-Star revealed that he will be playing in the Spring Training and work as both as a designated hitter and first baseman ahead of the 2025 season.
Freeman suffered a nasty ankle injury while trying to reach first base during a game against the San Diego Padres in late September. He would though play the entire offseason with this nagging issue and was named as the World Series MVP after he hit 4 home runs in 4 successive games. His contributions’ helped the Los Angeles Dodgers claim their 8th World Series title.
Following the 2024 season, he underwent a surgery on his ankle in December. At that time it was expected that he would return during the Spring Training.
However, during a recent FanFest of the Dodgers, Freeman claimed that he will sit out of the Spring Training games. Now, he has claimed that he will take part in these games and will make his Cactus League debut on Thursday.
Yeah, so it’s kind of right back to the training table. Today’s Wednesday — 12 weeks post-op tomorrow. I’m going to play in the first game; I’ll be DHing tomorrow, just kind of managing the workload at the beginning. I think I’ll DH tomorrow, aiming to DH again on Saturday, and potentially play first base on Sunday. I’m feeling pretty good.

Apart from Freeman, two other Dodgers stars are also gearing up for their 2025 Spring Training debut. As per reports, catcher Will Smith and 2024 NL MVP Shohei Ohtani are both expected to take part in Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
While the Spring Training games do not really matter, the Dodgers have made a poor start so far. They are 2-5 in their opening 7 Spring Training games. Only the Cleveland Guardians (1-4) and the Chicago White Sox (0-5) have a worse record than the Dodgers in the Cactus league.
