Freddie Freeman delivered another walk-off World Series moment on Monday. In a marathon Game 3 that stretched up till the 18th inning, the first baseman clubbed a walk-off home run to seal a 6-5 win for the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Toronto Blue Jays and gave his side a 2-1 lead.

In a classic game, the Dodgers struck first in the 2nd inning through Teoscar Hernandez. Following a controversial call at the top of this inning, Hernandez slammed a solo home run to put his team 1-0 up.

Shohei Ohtani then joined the party. The Japanese international hit his 7th home run of this postseason in the 3rd inning and made it a 2-0 game. The Blue Jays, who have made a habit of coming back after falling down, came back again.

A 3-run bomb from Alejandro Kirk in the 4th inning saw them turn the game around and lead 3-2. A sacrifice fly from Andres Gimenez made it a 4-2 game.

Ohtani would then hit a 2-run double in the 5th inning to cut the deficit to 1 run. Freeman would follow him up with a single to level the proceedings at 4-4.

Bo Bichette would then drive in the go-ahead run in the 7th inning. A single from him allowed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to score from first base. Ohtani then homered again.

The reigning National League MVP connected on his 2nd home run of the game to tie it up at 5-5. After that, it became a massive pitching duel between the two bullpens.

The two sides used up almost all of their reserves in the bullpen. The offense of the teams was just unable to get the clutch hits. Meanwhile, after giving up 4 hits to him, the Blue Jays intentionally walked Ohtani 4 times. A base-on-balls saw him end the day reaching base 9 times.

As the game reached the 18th inning, it tied the record for the longest World Series game. In 2018, Game 3 of the World Series between the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox also went into 18 innings. A Max Muncy walk-off home run on a 3-2 pitch saw the Dodgers take that game.

Something similar happened 7 years later. On a 3-2 count, Freeman connected on a 92 mph sinker from Brendon Little and sent the ball flying towards center field. This time, the ball had enough power and sailed over the center field wall over Daulton Varsho, ending the game.

Fans on social media had gone into a frenzy as the game continued to stretch. As the 18th inning rolled up, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto started warming up in the bullpen. Just 2 days ago, he had thrown a complete game.

Freeman, the 2024 World Series MVP, made sure the Dodgers did not need Yamamoto in this game. His walk-off home run in the 18th inning once again broke the internet.

Last year, Freeman scripted his name in MLB history through his walk-off winner in Game 1 of the World Series. His grand slam off Nestor Cortes saw the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 6-3. He would become the first player to hit a walk-off grand slam in World Series history.

The first baseman became the first player in MLB history to have multiple walk-off home runs in the postseason. His first one was the walk-off grand slam he hit last year in Game 1 against the New York Yankees.

Freeman’s walk-off homer saw the game end after 6 hours and 39 minutes. The distinction of the longest World Series game time-wise still belongs to Game 3 of the 2018 World Series, which went on for 7 hours and 20 minutes. The players now have less than 24 hours to prepare for Game 4 on Tuesday.
