On 3rd August, Carlos Yulo became the Philippines’ first male gold medalist in the Olympic Games by winning the Men’s Floor Exercise. He followed his celebrations by earning another gold in the Men’s Vault Final the next day. The Filipino gymnast was all set to remember the day for the rest of his life. Not only because of the medal but also for the innumerable prizes he received after the Paris Olympics.

As previously announced by the real estate company Megaworld, any Filipino gold medalist Olympian was to receive a fully furnished two-bedroom condo in their McKinley Hill development. Although, after watching Yulo’s outstanding performance, the company promoted it to a three-bedroom condo. However, this was far from all he received. In addition, he received a prize of 20 million Philippine pesos. Along with that, the state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation will also award him with an unspecified house in the area of Tagaytay.

The huge moment of celebration called for huge prizes. This was why other branches of the Philippine government chipped in a 6-million-peso gift, doubling their earlier sum of 3 million pesos. Besides the land and cash prizes, the local businesses also gathered to shower him with appreciation.

Carlos Yulo brought the Philippines’ medal count from one to three in the 100 years of the country’s participation. The city’s Mayor, where he was born and raised announced that they awaited Yulo’s return from the Paris Olympics while preparing for a grand welcome.

Carlos Yulo Bet On Himself And It Paid Off

A while back, Carlos Yulo split with his former gymnastics coach Munehiro Kugimiya over a tiff with schedules. He stood by his decision to live with his girlfriend and friends in peace despite the hurdles on the mat without a coach. Consequently, Yulo reunited with his childhood coach Allen Aldrin Castañeda who brought Yulo back to the light.

Yulo’s split with Kugimiya was because of a lack of personal space from the coach’s end. He disagreed with his tight schedules and routines and wanted some time off for himself and his friends and girlfriend. The decision resulted in a huge dip in Yulo’s career. Although the Japanese coach offered a hand once again, the gymnast refused due to uncommon ground.

With the huge victory surrounding Yulo, he proved his determination and resilience for the sport and his love for friends and family. His girlfriend, Chloe San Jose who was thought to be a distraction for him, turned out to be the one who helped him grow. His reuniting with coach Castañeda played a key role in Yulo’s journey to the Paris Olympics.
