Free Fire Overtakes PUBG Mobile as the Highest-Grossing Mobile Battle Royale in USA: A New Era?
Free fire lands as the highest-grossing Battle Royale game in the US, overtaking PUBG by multitudes.
According to the data analysis of the statistics website, Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, Free Fire from Garena has overtook PUBG Mobile from Tencent as the highest-grossing mobile Battle Royale game. Free Fire has accumulated approximately 4.5 times from their revenue from the same period in the year prior, a whooping 100 million dollars in revenue during its last quarter, leaving PUBG Mobile way behind at its 68 million dollars revenue for the second time in a quarter by a lion’s share.
According to statistics website Sensor Tower, Garena Free Fire made USD 100 Million in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q21), putting it above PUBG Mobile and its USD 68 Million revenue. In third place was Call of Duty Mobile, not too far behind PUBG Mobile with USD 62 Million in revenue. Garena Call of Duty : Mobile from Activision managed to secure the third spot among the top three Battle Royale Titles in IQ21, grossing on about 62 million dollars, with a drastic 80% increase in its revenue.
The Leap of Faith and Securing Highest-Grossing Title
There always has been a substantial rivalry between PUBG Mobile and Free Fire, with each seeking better gameplay offerings to cast away other and set advanced records. While the Battle Royale mobile advertise is definitely a much large scale market now than it was initially at the starting point, it can be said confidently that the genre is only trending uphill into much more lucrative profitability.
As the overall Sensor Tower reports , Battle Royale games made 1.3 billion dollars in 1Q21, expanding a large 16.6% year-on-year. This might mean that unlike what some people may presume, hearsays of the Battle Royale genre’s overcrowding were greatly miscalculated, if not exaggerated, with many still adhering to the most popular ones, be it battle royale or games of any other genre. The reach of mobile gaming and E-Sports is soaring to new heights with every passing day. 2020 had proved to be the year supporting growth of many mobile games, seeing the breakout of mobile gaming at large, owing to year long quarantines and 2021 has not disappointed so far in terms of revenue and user stats.
Tactical Shooter genre has proved to be a leading revenue driver on consoles and PC for years, while the same category had struggled to gain adhesion on mobile. With the hike of Battle Royale games, however, the shooter genre has exploded into a high multitude of lucrative peddle. While PUBG Mobile was the No. 1 title for revenue in the world across the App Store and Google Play in 1Q21, Garena Free Fire ranked No. 8, until now, and we hope more to come from the battle royale community, especially after Free Fire ‘s revenue hike.
